Abstract: Nano opens new world for sensorsSharon
L. Smith, Ph.D.

There is a tremendous potential
nanosensors and nano-enabled sensors to revolutionize defense and homeland
security systems. As a major defense contractor, we design and manufacture
military and space systems, and we do this for many different platforms
and many different environments. Our current areas of focus include military
space products, precision munitions, information superiority, air and
missile defense products, combat, air mobility, and special mission/reconnaissance
aircraft. As part of our on-going efforts to keep our defense and homeland
security systems the best in the world, we are currently using nanotechnologies
and exploring new ways to exploit them. This presentation will focus on
the potential for nano-scale sensors to enhance our current and future
products as well as the challenges associated with getting these ultra
small components into our systems.
