Doing Business With Your Technology in Asia

Abstract: How One Multi-National EDA Vendor Navigates R&D in the Asian IC Design Market

Raul Camposano,Sr.VP & CTO, Synopsys, Inc.

As the fastest growing semiconductor market today, Asia is also the fastest growing market for electronic design automation (EDA) tools. To be successful, global EDA vendors therefore need an effective plan for doing business in Asia. Such a plan must include, among others, four key strategic elements: Selling to customers in Asia, servicing products and supporting customers in Asia, relocating or outsourcing company activities (such as IT, services, customer training, etc.) to Asia, and developing R&D products in Asia.

Synopsys has a history of over a decade of doing business in Asia that encompasses all of the above activities. This presentation gives an historical overview of our activities in Asia, showing how we approach the challenges associated with distribution over such a vast geography, such as IT support, distributed development, infrastructure, etc.
