BIOAPPLICATIONS OF NANOTECHNOLOGIES: Topics in International Advanced Technology

Bio: Dr. Michiharu Nakamura

Dr. Michiharu Nakamura manages the corporate research and development activities at Hitachi, Ltd. as the President of the Corporate R&D Group. He has been serving as the Chairman of the Nanotechnology Committee in the Japan Federation of Economic Organizations, promoting nanotechnology research both in academia and industry throughout Japan.

He joined the Central Research Laboratory, Hitachi, Ltd. in 1967 and was engaged in novel device development and commercialization. He contributed to the development of distributed feedback semiconductor lasers and high-speed electronics that are widely used in optical communication networks today. He also participated in the development of SONET optical network systems. During his assignment as the General Manager of the laboratory, he expanded the global R&D activities in the fields of electronics and information technology.

Dr. Nakamura is a Fellow of IEEE and IEICE.
