Jun'ichi Sone graduated with a Master's degree in Physics from Tokyo University in 1975 and was awarded a Doctorate of Science from Tokyo University in 1983.

He joined NEC as a research member of the Central Research Laboratories in 1975. He had been engaged in the development of GaAs devices, Josephson junction integrated circuits, and Quantum devices.

He is now in charge of the development of Nanotechnology, Quantum Information Technology, and Bio Information Technology as a General Manager of the Fundamental Research Laboratories of NEC Corp.
