ABSTRACT

Dr. Rafiq Dossani ( Tuesday, May 22nd)

The presentation examined the causes for the success of Indian and Chinese engineers in Silicon Valley.   The explanatory variables includes education, place of education, years in the United States and the networks formed through ethnic and other associations.  Using a primary dataset, it was found that participation in networks influences engineers' ability to grow professionally.  The networks formed through participaing in ethnical professional associations was found to have value even beyond the rich networks available more generally to engineers in Silicon Valley.
