Bio:

Topic: The future of magnetic recording technology

Abstract:  Since its introduction in 1956, hard disk drive technology has seen dramatic and continuous improvements in both information storage areal density and cost. Current areal densities in hard disk drives are at about 250 Gb/in2. This talk will explore some of the new approaches, such as patterned media or thermally assisted recording, that may be required to continue to scale beyond 1 Tb/in2
