International Corporate Venturing for Supply Chain Decarbonization

This seminar introduces the M-Lab Consortium, a coalition of the Silicon Valley innovation groups of Japanese companies led by Mitsubishi Corporation (Americas) for the purpose of developing international-scale open innovation partnerships with startup companies, and its “Go Make 2022” accelerator for startups that target supply chain decarbonization.  Our panelists will describe innovation initiatives for sustainability in their parent company as well as their interests in related open innovation possibilities with startup firms.

The series begins September 29, 2022 and continues weekly until December 1, 2022. Seminars will be held Thursdays, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM.

Hideaki Akimoto

Vice President of Business Development, Yazaki Innovations, Inc.

Mr. Hideaki Akimoto joined Yazaki Corporation in 1993. He has been engaged in the company’s international business affairs, and after working in the United Kingdom, Brazil, the United States, Colombia, Italy, and Germany, he returned to Japan in 2019 and worked for a period in the innovation department and manufacturing business management office. Since 2019, Mr. Akimoto has been in charge of new business development in Palo alto, California.

Kei Morita, Ph.D.

General Manager, ENEOS Americas

Dr. Kei Morita is the General Manager of ENEOS Americas Inc. ENEOS Corporation is one of the largest energy (Oil & Gas) and resources company in Japan.  He has been with the company for over 10 years working in both R&D and business operations in the electricity sector. ENEOS set a target to achieve carbon neutral by 2040 and established a Corporate VC (CVC) to accelerate its decarbonization. Currently, Dr. Morita is in charge of new technology scouting and startup investment in the U.S. to support ENEOS’ CVC and R&D activities. Dr. Morita received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Nagoya University, Japan.

Seiichiro Mukai

Senior Manager, Mitsubishi Corporation (Americas) Silicon Valley Branch

At Mitsubishi Corporation, Mr. Seiichiro Mukai has lead numerous projects, gaining insight into various industries and regions.  In March 2019 he transferred to Mitsubishi Corporation’s Silicon Valley branch. In his current position overseeing corporate operations, he is committed to creating new businesses with internal/external partners, and executing transformative innovation initiatives through M-Lab, an open-innovation platform with top-tier Japanese large corporates. Mr. Seiichiro Mukai’s past experience includes strategy management consulting and working as certified public accountant.
