Outlook for Tech Entrepreneurship in the Philippines

Jojo Flores – Co-Founder & Vice President of Operations at the Plug & Play Technology Center

Panelists Lourdes Montenegro and Jojo Flores (photo) discuss current trends and the outlook for technology entrepreneurship in the Philippines.

Topics to be addressed also include policies, economic factors, and programs that have grown entrepreneurial capacity, regional diversity in entrepreneurship across the Philippines, the growth of a venture investment community, and activities in bringing start-up companies from the Philippines to grow in the U.S..

Lourdes is Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, Philippines.  Her recent research includes study of the environmental costs of coastal reclamation in Southeast Asia, and her consulting includes socio-economic profiling of local communities in the Philippines as input to development and land use policies.

Jojo is Co-Founder and Vice President of Operations at the Plug and Play Technology Center, an international incubator and business accelerator in Silicon Valley.  A native of Manila, Jojo is also Vice President of the Silicon Valley – Science and Advisory Council (SV-STAC) and an active member of the Filipino Entrepreneurs Network (FEN) in the Bay Area.

This is the sixth session in the US-ATMC series on “Entrepreneurship in Asian High-Tech Industries,” which continues through June 5.
