Entrepreneurs and Emerging Technology-Intensive Innovation in Asia

Lerwen Liu, Ph.D., Managing Director, NanoGlobe Pte Ltd. (Singapore)

Entrepreneurial innovation in rapidly growing economies like China has so far focused on meeting immediate market demands and often seems less technology-intensive than in advanced economies. Our public seminar this week focuses on the next wave of technology-intensive entrepreneurship in Asia.

Author of Emerging Nanotechnology Power: Nanotechnology R&D and Business Trends in the Asia Pacific Rim, Dr. Liu is an Asia-based expert specializing in nanotech policy/strategy, internationalization and business development.  She is the founding secretary of the Asia Nano Forum (www.asia-anf.org), strategic advisor and a founding Director of Nanostart Asia, and she has played a vital role in setting up Nanostart AG`s Singapore fund, investment and operation.  Dr. Liu has a Ph.D in physics specializing in many-body effects and transports in semiconductor nanostructures, and has conducted research work in Australia, Japan, USA and Italy. She is fluent in Chinese and English; reads technical Japanese and speaks conversational Japanese and Italian.

Immediately following the session, we’ll have a short-networking reception from 5:30 – 6:15PM.  This is the sixth session in the US-Asia Technology Management Center’s ten week seminar series on “Entrepreneurship in Asian High-Tech Industries.”

Presented by the US-Asia Technology Management Center in Stanford’s School of Engineering, with support from the Miner Foundation and major series support from ISI Dentsu of America.
