Shibuya, the Startup City

The City of Shibuya has long been a hotspot for startups and new business creation in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area. Now, Shibuya has launched Shibuya Startup Support (SSS) to attract foreign startups to the area, both for Japan market entry and as a gateway to global expansion. Ms. Watabe will introduce SSS services, which range from entrepreneur visa application support to the future plan of accelerator programs, and she will discuss the prospects for programs such as SSS to lead to a more entrepreneurial Japan in the future.

Seminars will take place on Tuesdays from March 29th – May 31st. These sessions are open to the public and registration is required to receive the Zoom login details.
All seminars will be held online via Zoom, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM, with informal networking following until about 7:30 PM (PST).

Speakers
Shiho Watabe
Advisor to the Mayor, Shibuya Startup Project
Growing up in Shibuya city and eventually graduating from Stanford University with a master’s degree, Shiho began her career at global companies such as Morgan Stanley, Google, and Mercari before venturing into startups at various stages. She has lived and worked in Japan, South East Asia, Europe, and Africa before moving to Silicon Valley in 2014. Shiho’s latest endeavor, SWAR Inc. works with VCs and startups in Japan and Bay Area in their growth/marketing strategies. As a part of her role as an advisor to the city of Shibuya, Shiho works on the Shibuya Startup Support project, building a global startup ecosystem in Tokyo.
