Foreign Entrepreneurs in Japan: Shibuya Startup KK | Zoom-only

Shiho Watabe, CEO of Shibuya Startups KK, returns to our seminar series to give us an update on an initiative led by the Shibuya City Office to entice startups from across Japan and overseas to locate to Shibuya, Tokyo to grow their business in Japan and globally. Shiho will be joined by two foreign entrepreneurs who are active in Japan.  They’ll discuss what makes Shibuya (and Japan) so attractive to foreign entrepreneurs, and what startups can hope to achieve by locating to Japan.

Speakers

Shiho Watabe

CEO, Shibuya Startups KK

Growing up in Shibuya city and eventually graduating from Stanford University with a master’s degree, Shiho began her career at global companies such as Morgan Stanley, Google, and Mercari before venturing into startups at various stages. She has lived and worked in Japan, South East Asia, Europe, and Africa before moving to Silicon Valley in 2014. Shiho’s latest endeavor, SWAR Inc. works with VCs and startups in Japan and Bay Area in their growth/marketing strategies. As a part of her role as an advisor to the city of Shibuya, Shiho works on the Shibuya Startup Support project, building a global startup ecosystem in Tokyo.

Tania Coke

CEO & Co-Founder, Tellus

Prior to founding Tellus, Tania worked at Google and Capital IQ in product and strategy roles. She has also held research positions at Harvard Medical School and MIT’s McGovern Institute for Brain Research. She graduated from Stanford with her masters in Engineering where she was a DFJ Entrepreneurial Fellow. She is a Boston native who loves New York and is currently working on her daruma doll collection.

Gen Woods

CEO & Co-Founder, Callback

Gen is co-founder and CEO of Tokyo-based startup Callback, a web3 platform for brands. Callback has helped brands like Suntory, Ambush, ANA, Ferrero Rocher, Wired and Shibuya City create, distribute and manage on-chain digital items. Gen majored in MS&E at Stanford (class of ’20).
