Our panelists present their views on the serious resource
challenges in the Asia region, along with public sector
initiatives, technology approaches, and promising business
opportunities that these challenges are bringing about.
— Mr Kenneth Epstein brings to NewCap Partners more than
25 years of international investment banking and venture
management experience, including P&L responsibility for
major business units and also start-ups. For the last six years,
Ken has focused his efforts on M&A activities in the advanced
materials, healthcare/life science, and cleantech/water areas,
with an increasing emphasis on US/China and US/China/Japan
interactions. Recently completed cleantech/water projects
include a 40 million Euro financing deal for a European/South
African thin-film solar production plant, multimillion-dollar
equity investments in two water treatment companies, and
a large biomaterials joint venture. Ken holds a BS in Chemical
Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA in
International Finance from the University of Michigan. He began
his career in R&D at Dow Chemical, and he has led the start-up
of new businesses in Malaysia/Singapore and Brazil/Argentina.
— Ms Laura Shenkar, Founder and Principal of The Artemis
Project, is a global expert on corporate water strategy and
the application of advanced water technologies in
commercial and industrial markets. Her activities include:
leading major global companies in the development and
execution of water management strategies, assisting
advanced water technology companies in bringing new
innovations to market, advising the venture capital
community on emerging investment opportunities, and
working with national development organizations on
policy, advocacy and certification issues. Her research and
opinions have appeared in publications, such as Inc. Magazine,
the Christian Science Monitor and Time Magazine. A graduate
of Yale University, Ms. Shenkar also holds an MBA from
Harvard Business School.
