Mobile and Wireless: The U.S.-Asia Connection
Thursday, Oct 6, 2011
04:15 pm - 05:30 pm
Dr. Gerry Purdy, Principal Analyst at MobileTrax LLC
This session in our series focuses on hardware and platform developments for mobile internet businesses. Most mobile and wireless products such as smartphones and tablets are designed in the US, but manufactured in Asia. But, the largest wireless market in the world is China. While the mobile and wireless market is ‘Asian Centric’, there’s a tremendous influence on the mobile market from the US in areas such as industrial design and user interfaces. The markets will be identified and ties to Asia discussed.
A nationally recognized industry authority, Dr. Purdy focuses on monitoring and analyzing emerging trends, technologies and market behavior in the mobile computing and wireless data communications industry in North America. He is the author of the column “Inside Mobile & Wireless” that is read by over 130,000 people a week. Dr. Purdy is also currently Managing Director of the VC firm Yosemite Ventures. He spent five years as a Venture Advisor for Diamondhead Ventures and had a prior affiliation with East Peak Advisors and, following their acquisition, with FBR Capital Markets. Author of three books, Dr. Purdy is a member of the Program Advisory Board of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) that produces CES, one of the largest trade shows in the world. He is a frequent moderator at CTIA conferences and the GSM Mobile World Congress.
