Panasonic’s Collaborative R&D for a Better Life in a Better World
Thursday, Nov 14, 2013
04:15 pm - 05:30 pm
Takeshi Uenoyama, Ph.D., Fellow, Panasonic Corporation
Dr. Uenoyama first provides an overview of Panasonic and the company’s new R&D strategies, which include four strategic areas: home management networks, eco and smart business solutions, mobility systems and services, and connected services. He then discusses the importance of open innovation to accelerate the pace of R&D through collaboration with academia, start-up companies, and other R&D partners. Finally, he discusses the value achieved by Panasonic through open innovation in specific cases, such as new user-interfaces in personal devices, semiconductors, EEG sensors, and flexible displays.
Dr. Uenoyama received the M.S. degree in electronics engineering from Osaka University in 1981, the PhD degree from University California, San Diego in 1990, respectively. He joined Panasonic Corporation (former Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd) in 1981, taking responsibilities as director of Advanced Technologies Research Laboratory and Imaging Device Development Center, from 2004 to 2008, and became the executive officer in 2008. He currently serves as the Fellow at Panasonic R&D Division, and the vice president of Electrochemical Society (ECS).
Immediately following the session, we’ll have a short-networking reception from 5:30 – 6:15PM. This is the sixth session in the US-Asia Technology Management Center’s nine week seminar series on “New Value Chains and the Rise of Open Innovation in Asia.”
Presented by the US-Asia Technology Management Center in Stanford’s School of Engineering, with general series support from SunBridge Partners and the Miner Foundation.
