Globalization of Startup Companies from China: Perspectives of a VC

Hans Tung, Managing Partner, GGV Capital

In our next session, Hans Tung, Managing Partner of GGV Capital, will share his perspectives of the evolution of innovation in China and the globalization of entrepreneurs in the world’s fastest growing economy.  Hans is one of the most influential venture capitalists in China and joined the 2013 Forbes Midas list as one of seven China VCs.  In his upcoming talk, Hans will also provide insights into the China-Silicon Valley entrepreneur ecosystem.

Hans joined GGV Capital in 2013 as a Managing Partner, and his investments focus on mobile internet, cross border e-commerce, online education and the gaming industry.  Hans led GGV’s investment and serves on the board of Wish, a fast growing cross border mobile commerce company, Curse, a popular gaming platform, FlightCar, the world’s first peer to peer car sharing company at airports, and Totspot, a mobile marketplace.  He is also actively involved with GGV portfolio companies Flipboard and Yodo1.  Prior to joining GGV Capital, he was the Managing Partner at Qiming Ventures where he placed an early bet on Xiaomi Tech which was founded in April 2010 and has grown to become one of China’s largest electronic companies.

Previously he was with Bessemer Venture Partners, where he helped global players such as Skype expand into China.  Hans was also a founding member of Taipei-based Crimson Asia Capital and HelloAsia, a pan-Asian focused consumer Internet start-up based in Silicon Valley.  He started his career at Merrill Lynch as an investment banker focused on the technology sector.  He received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.
