Recreating Japan into a Startup Nation: New Forms of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Gen Isayama, Co-Founder & CEO, WiL

In this session, Mr. Gen Isayama will provide the latest updates on how Japan’s startup ecosystem is developing, with new signs of entrepreneurial support in Japan’s startup environment. He will also share thoughts on what we need to establish Japan as  a Startup Nation–the mission of WiL

WiL, LLC (World Innovation Lab) co-founded in 2013 by Gen Isayama, a former Partner at Doll Capital Management, is primarily a $300 million fund financed by corporate investors including Sony, Nissan and ANA aimed at blending the best of Silicon Valley and Japan.  The firm plans to identify and fund breakthrough innovations by leveraging internal IP assets and resources of these large Japanese enterprises.

Mr. Isayama is a graduate of Tokyo University and the Stanford Graduate School of Business and was the former chairman of the Stanford Japanese Association.  Mr. Isayama has served on the board of a number of different startups including UStream.tv, Rock You, Bit Torrent and RenRen.com and has invested in Japanese Mobile App Developer, TriFort, and virtual reality startup, Survios.

Please join us on Thursday, October 2nd for our first session of the quarter as we discover “New Trends in Startup Company Acceleration: Toward the Rise of the Global Startup.”

Immediately following the session, we’ll have a short-networking reception from 5:30 – 6:15PM.

This keynote session is presented by the US-Asia Technology Management Center and the Stanford Silicon Valley – New Japan Project, with support also from The Miner Foundation.
