Partnership-driven Business Growth in Komatsu: Autonomous Trucking and Smart Construction
Mr. Hisashi Asada, General Manager of the Business Innovation Center, ICT Solution Division, Komatsu Ltd., discusses Komatsu’s partnership-driven approach to new business areas that combine telematics and Internet-of-Things with autonomous driving technologies. The talk will address KOMTRAX, Komatsu’s Autonomous Hauling Service (AHS) for very large trucks in mine sites, and also their new initiatives for productivity improvements in construction, such as ICT-based field automation machines and smart construction. Mr. Asada will share some examples of which areas Komatsu builds external partnerships, and which areas remain within Komatsu in order to deliver better services/solutions quickly and keep sustainable competitiveness. In addition, Asada will briefly look at some of the challenges in external partnerships. Come join us to learn how Komatsu is realizing cost reduction and productivity improvement in customer sites with these services and solutions.
Hisashi Asada has been involved in the research and development of Komatsu products for over 20 years. His fields of expertise include development of robotic systems for welding and semiconductor manufacturing, as well as development of electronic control systems and hydraulic components in construction machines. Recently Asada’s work has shifted to machine usage analysis and utilization improvement activities, which leads to data driven innovations in customer fields. He holds a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Osaka University.
