Joint International Smart Grid Demonstration Projects by NEDO
In this session, Mr. Go Takizawa will discuss how smart grid technologies are revolutionizing the energy future landscape. The electric industry is currently undergoing a massive transformation on both the supply side, such as the large deployment of renewable energy, and demand side, such as rising popularity of electric vehicles. Integrating all of these advanced resources will require innovative “smart grid” technologies and joint collaborative efforts. Mr. Takizawa will share his insights on the role of public-private partnerships in facilitating the future grid and highlight several international smart grid demonstration projects being carried out by NEDO.
NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) is the largest public R&D funding organization in Japan. NEDO promotes research and development of energy, environmental and industrial technologies. With approximately 1.5 billion dollar annual budget, its activities range from robotics to machinery systems, electronics, materials, nanotech, energy conservation, renewable energy, smart community and more.
Mr. Takizawa is the Chief Representative of NEDO Silicon Valley Office. As NEDO’s representative, he is closely involved in NEDO smart grid projects demonstrated in New Mexico and Hawaii. He also initiated an EV and Energy Storage related demonstration project in California in partnership with the Office of Governor Brown. Prior to the NEDO position, he was a Director in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan (METI), where he was responsible for auditing the electricity price increase and planning the power supply and demand measures for Japan, as well as revitalizing a law concerning energy efficiency. As a government officer, he has a wide range of experiences in many policy planning fields, such as global warming, intellectual property, space industry, economic cooperation and human resources.
Mr. Takizawa graduated from Tokyo University with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Duke University.
