R&D at TISTR (Thailand): Micro-algae Oil Cultivation

Dr. Sophon Sirisattha began his research career with TISTR in 1997. At the time, he joined the staff of TISTR’s oil-spill degradation project for three years. In 2000, he received professional training support from the JAPAN International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to complete the one-year training course in industrial biotechnology. After he returned to TISTR in 2001, he continued with research in genetic engineering for five years on the use of the PCR-mediated gene replacement method for construction of live attenuated vaccines and related projects. He completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan, in 2008. He is now joining the algae research project as a team member for helping to improve algal strain performances.
