Alternative (Jet) Fuel from Micro-organisms

Thursday, Oct 6, 2022

05:30 pm - 07:00 pm

Euglena Co., Ltd. is a dynamic breakaway founded in a University of Tokyo Faculty of Agriculture laboratory. In December 2005, Euglena became the first in the world to successfully mass culture its namesake organism, Euglena, outdoors and make it available for commercial use. By using microalgae such as Euglena, the company is developing and manufacturing factional food and cosmetics, and creating biofuels designed to reduce CO2 emissions. Because Euglena grows using natural processes like photosynthesis, it is garnering global attention as a greener raw material for the next generation of bio fuels.  Please join Mr. Mitsuru Izumo, Founder and President of Euglena Co., Ltd., as he explains how Euglena is being used to develop alternative aviation fuel and ultimately as other fossil fuel replacements.

The series begins September 29, 2022 and continues weekly until December 1, 2022. Seminars will be held Thursdays, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM.

Instructor: Richard Dasher <rdasher [at] stanford [dot] edu>

The series is available to Stanford students for credit; register for EASTASN 402A “Topics in International Technology Management,” also cross-listed as EE-402A and EALC-402A, 1 unit S/NC.
