Overview: Innovations in Supply Chains and Manufacturing in Asia: Opportunities and Challenges in Realignment (Hybrid)

Tuesday, Sep 24, 2024

04:30 pm - 05:50 pm

Our flagship autumn Seminar Series on International Technology Management in 2024 will host distinguished speakers and panels from industry and the public sector to address topics such as post-Covid regional redistribution of international supply chains in Asia; new technology solutions for manufacturing resilience and industry-level geopolitical security; digital integration of manufacturing, supply chain, and business data; related new trends in key industries such as semiconductors, electronics, and automotive; and the broader impact of these developments on US-Asia business.

Our first session begins Tuesday, September 24th with US-ATMC Director Dr. Richard Dasher on an “Overview: Innovations in Supply Chains and Manufacturing in Asia: Opportunities and Challenges in Realignment”.

Manufacturing and supply chains represent a cost to product companies, and so most innovation related to this aspect of business until recently focused on increasing efficiency, thereby reducing cost or ensuring more on-time delivery.  The Covid-19 pandemic, however, has served as a catalyst to raise awareness of the importance of other goals for manufacturing and supply chain improvement, namely increased resilience against disruption, national security and independence, environmental sustainability, and the ability to adapt quickly to sudden technology and business changes of the current digital industrial revolution.  Following an introduction to the current state of manufacturing-and-supply-chain innovation in Asia, this overview presentation will examine trends and dynamics that are responding to the above four goals.  It will also provide a preview of topics to be addressed later in this series of weekly seminars.
