For the seventh consecutive year, the US-Asia Technology Management Center cooperated with the Japan Society of Northern California in producing the Japan- U.S. Innovation Awards program, a yearlong effort to identify and recognize exceptional performance in innovation by companies in Japan and the U.S. and in collaborations between Japan and Silicon Valley.
The Japan-U.S. Innovation Awards Symposium is the flagship event in the program. At the Symposium, we present the “Emerging Leader” award to one U.S. and one Japanese company that are already beginning to transform a major industry value chain (our first U.S. awardee was Tesla Motors in 2011), and we recognize five Japanese startup companies built around exceptionally exciting innovations that will be of special interest to the Silicon Valley community. This year, for the first time in five years, we will also present a “Special Award for Japan-U.S. Cooperation in Innovation.” Top executives of the awardees receive the awards and participate in panel discussions about innovation and the relevance of their efforts to Silicon Valley.
