We are living through a time of increasing velocity of change driven by technology. Mitigating the ethical, legal and social issues it creates for human beings is the work in front of us.

The program will begin with a keynote address by Dr. Tamali Sen Gupta, Author of Tech, Law & Trust: India’s Path to Sovereign IP.  Dr. Sen Gupta will focus on the impact of AI on the 8.3+ billion population of the planet and the intersection with existing social social constructs.

Following the keynote, our diverse group of panelists will discuss the innovation across the deep tech stack – and the hardware beneath – and its impact on the social contract, IP, and the legal system.

Dr. Tamali Sen Gupta

Author and Founder & Managing Partner, T. Sen Gupta and Associates

Dr. Tamali Sen Gupta is the founder and Managing Partner of T. Sen Gupta and Associates. She finished her JSM 1990 and JSD 1991 from Stanford Law School. Dr. Sen Gupta has been one of the founders of the Stanford Alumni Association in New Delhi and has served as President for two terms. She has over three decades of experience in commercial law and in the development sector, and is also a widely published author.

Dr. Sen Gupta advises companies on strategic legal issues and has served as an Independent Board Director for companies such as HFCL, HTL, SREI Infrastructure Finance Limited, JW Marriott Delhi/ Aria Hotels, Asian Hotels West Ltd., and Sony Pictures Entertainment Films India Pvt. Ltd. As an Independent Director on the Boards of several listed companies, Dr. Sen Gupta has served on multiple board committees.

Dr. Sen Gupta has worked extensively in the development sector as well, such as endeavors with the Rotary Foundation including education, water conservation, and skill development of the youth from slum clusters. She has also navigated the grant process, including matching international grants with Rotary International.

Dr. Sen Gupta’s work across both the legal and development sectors highlights her commitment to driving positive change and supporting both corporate growth and societal advancement.

Dr. Pushkar P. Apte

Strategic Technology Advisor, SEMI

Dr. Pushkar P. Apte serves as Strategic Technology Advisor for SEMI, the electronics industry consortium representing 2500 companies worldwide; where he leads SEMI’s Global Smart Data-AI Initiative. He also serves as the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Center for Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS) and the Banatao Institute, at the University of California, Berkeley; where he develops corporate partnerships to harness intelligent and sustainable technologies for innovative applications.

Dr. Apte received his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Stanford University in Materials Science and Electrical Engineering, and his Bachelor’s degree in Ceramic Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi, India. Dr. Apte also holds an Executive M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University.

Sanjay Bhatnagar

Founder & CEO, THOT Capital Group; Stanford MS ’89

Global executive with decades of leadership across energy, media, healthcare, and water infrastructure. Founded THOT Capital Group in 2001 after serving as Chairman and CEO of Enron South Asia, where he led large-scale power, pipeline, and LNG infrastructure projects and raised over $3 billion in capital.

As President and CEO of WaterHealth International, he pioneered scalable safe water delivery across India and Africa, earning recognition as Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the World Economic Forum in 2019. He serves as an Independent Director of The Oberoi Group and Chairman of the Board of EIH International, and holds board positions with Metropolis Healthcare, Tango Media, and the US India Strategic Partnership Forum.

Prof. Henry T. (Hank) Greely

Deane F. and Kate Edelman Johnson Professor of Law; Professor by courtesy of Genetics, Stanford School of Medicine; Director, Center for Law and the Biosciences; Director, Stanford Program in Neuroscience and Society; and Chair, Steering Committee of the Center for Biomedical Ethics

Henry T. “Hank” Greely specializes in ethical, legal, and social issues arising from advances in the biosciences, particularly from genetics, neuroscience, and human stem cell research. He chairs the California Advisory Committee on Human Stem Cell Research and the steering committee of the Stanford University Center for Biomedical Ethics, and directs the Stanford Center for Law and the Biosciences and the Stanford Program in Neuroscience and Society. He serves as a member of the NAS Committee on Science, Technology, and Law; the NIGMS Advisory Council, the Institute of Medicine’s Neuroscience Forum, and the NIH Multi-Center Working Group on the BRAIN Initiative. Professor Greely graduated from Stanford in 1974 and from Yale Law School in 1977. He served as a law clerk for Judge John Minor Wisdom on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and for Justice Potter Stewart of the United States Supreme Court. He began teaching at Stanford in 1985.

Dr. Richard Dasher

Director, US-Asia Technology Management Center

Dr. Richard Dasher has directed the US-Asia Technology Management Center and served as adjunct faculty at Stanford since 1994. From 1998 – 2017, he served concurrently as Executive Director of the Center for Integrated Systems (now Stanford System X Alliance). In 2004, Dr. Dasher became the first non-Japanese person to join the governance of a Japanese national university, serving on the Board of Directors and then on the Management Council of Tohoku University until 2011. Other service (selected) includes the Program Committee of the World Premier International Research Center Initiative (WPI) of MEXT since its founding in 2007, and advisory roles with research institutes, accelerators, and nonprofits in Thailand, China, Japan, S. Korea, Canada, France, Germany, and the U.S. Dr. Dasher received the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation in 2023 for long-term promotion of economic relations between Japan and the U.S.
