About the panelists:
Brent Lakeman, Director, Hydrogen Initiative of Edmonton Global, Canada
Brent Lakeman is Director for Edmonton Global’s Hydrogen Initiative, where he is leading the Metropolitan Edmonton Region’s activities to position the region as Canada’s preeminent hydrogen hub. Brent collaborates with other regional partners in the transition to this low carbon fuel. Activities include attracting clean hydrogen producers to the region and growing the region’s hydrogen value chain.
Prior to joining Edmonton Global, Brent served as the Executive Director for teams within the Government of Alberta focused on the growth and diversification of the province’s economy, with a strong focus on the clean technology, life sciences and digital technology sectors. Brent has worked to foster partnerships between advanced technology enterprises and Alberta’s research and innovation system to drive growth of the knowledge economy, attract investments and accelerate diversification. Brent has also had leadership roles at Alberta Innovates Technology Futures and the Alberta Research Council, including leading the organizations carbon management and environmental monitoring initiatives. Brent has over 30 years of experience working on Alberta’s technology, energy, environment and economic diversification priorities, including clean energy systems, climate change mitigation and the development of Alberta’s artificial intelligence capabilities. Brent holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Queen University.
Janekrishna Kanatharana, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Thailand
Dr. Janekrishna Kanatharana graduated from Chulalongkorn University with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and received his master’s degree and Ph. D. in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, USA.
Dr. Kanatharana started his professional life in 1989 by working as an engineer at an engineering consulting firm, and in 1990, he took an assistant researcher position at the National Science Foundation Research Center for Advanced Technology for Large Structural Systems, at Lehigh University.
After graduating from the university in 1996, Dr. Kanatharana joined Chuchawal-de Weger International Co., Ltd., which was an engineering consulting company under Design 103 Limited. He later joined Wonderworld Products Co., Ltd., a manufacturer and exporter of innovative wooden toys made from replenishable rubberwood, as the director of operations until 2003.
In 2004, Dr. Kanatharana joined the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) as the director of the Thailand Science Park and vice president of the NSTDA. He also held many important positions in various agencies, including secretary of the Thai Business Incubators & Science Parks Association (Thai BISPA). Currently, Dr. Kanatharana is executive vice president of NSTDA.
In 2010, Dr. Kanatharana was appointed Asia-Pacific Division President of the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) with over 400 members in 70 countries worldwide
Stephen Su, ITRI Vice President & General Director of Industry, Science and Technology International Strategy Center (ITRI), Hsinchu, Taiwan
Stephen Su is currently the Vice President and General Director of the Industry, Science and Technology International Strategy Center at ITRI, and the General Director in Office of AI Application Strategy.
Prior to these roles, he was General Director of the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center at ITRI.
Before joining ITRI, Stephen Su held a variety of senior management positions including as a Principal at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in Shanghai and as Senior Director, Consumer Electronics for Primax Electronics Ltd., Taipei.
He has computer science and electrical engineering degrees from both UC Berkeley and the California Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
