Part 2: Visiting Scholar presentations

Keynote presenter: Prof. Zhenan Bao

K. K. Lee Professor of Chemical Engineering and Professor, by courtesy, of Materials Science and Engineering and of Chemistry

Founder and Faculty Director, Stanford Wearable Electronics Initiative (eWEAR) <https://profiles.stanford.edu/zhenan-bao>

Prof. Bao will discuss applications of wearable devices and their integration into smart environments.  Wearable electronics combine sensors and wireless communications to allow remote collection of vital information and more
seamless human interfaces with technology.  Wearable electronics need to be flexible and comfortable to wear while providing accurate information.

Prof. Bao’s work, which long focused on technology development of flexible materials for semiconductor devices, led her to found the eWEAR initiative at Stanford <https://wearable.su.domains/>, which is conducting research
toward the development of new product opportunities in health monitoring, robotic interfaces (including self-driving cars), AR/VR, smart textiles, implantable electronics, Internet of Things, smart cities, and more.

After earning her Ph.D. in Chemistry from The University of Chicago in 1995. Prof Bao joined Bell Labs, becoming a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in 2001.  She joined Stanford University in 2004 and has subsequently been named a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Inventors. She was elected a foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Science in 2021. She is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and many professional societies in engineering.  She has published almost 700 refereed technical publications and holds over 80 U.S. patents.  She is one of the Founders and currently sits on the Board of Directors of C3 Nano Co. and PyrAmes, both of which are Silicon Valley venture-funded companies.
