Takaaki Hoda, Ph.D.


Takaaki Hoda is a Visiting Scholar at the US-Asia Technology Management Center for 2019-2020.  He joined Kobe University, Graduate School of Business, in August 2015 as an Associate Professor of Corporate Finance and Venture Business.

Professor Hoda’s research interests are social finance (i.e. crowdfunding, social impact bond, regional cryptocurrency), corporate finance, social entrepreneurship, and applications in government policy. He has multiple peer-reviewed publications, many working papers, and has received awards for his work from the Japan Academic Society for Ventures and Entrepreneurs.

He also has an appointment as a board member of two listed Japanese companies respectively. Prior to his academic career, he served as an investment banker, the founder and CEO of a Japanese startup, a venture capitalist, and a researcher at the Financial Services Agency, The Japanese Government. He serves as a Committee Member for Foundation of Regional Innovation Ecosystem led by the Ministry of Education, The Japanese Government since 2013 and is an academic advisor for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Kobe City on their policies / practices on crowdfunding initiatives.

Professor Hoda earned his B.A. in Commerce, M.A. in Finance and Ph.D. in Commerce (Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance) from Waseda University.
